Nonexclusionary timeout: maintenance of appropriate behavior across settings.

چکیده
A recentpaper by Foxx and Shapiro (1978) used a nonexclusionary timeoutprocedure to reduce inappropriate behaviors in a mentally retarded population. The present study was designed to replicate these findings, to examine the utility o f modifying the basic reinforcement schedule of the original study, and to demonstrate control across settings and maladaptive behaviors using a multiple baseline design. The subject was a 19-year-old severely retarded male, and the design consisted of implementing the program sequentially across three settings. Following initial baseline in each setting, a discriminative cue was provided to the client, and a DRO schedule was instituted. Any occurrence of target disruptive behaviors resulted in removal of the discriminative cue and interruption of the reinforcement schedule. After the intervention program was implemented in each setting, inappropriate behaviors decreased to virtually zero rates of occurrence. These findings indicate that a signaled timeout can be employed successfully in more than one setting and that it can be used in conjunction with DRO reinforcement schedule. The advantages of mediating transfer of behavioral improvements with portable discriminative cues were discussed.

Optimal Webserver Session Timeout Settings for Web Users
From an end user’s point of view, too short a Webserver timeout implies too many forced logouts, and too long a timeout duration poses a higher security risk to users’ sensitive data. We propose cost functions to select the timeout value, which are based on the solutions of a Markov regenerative process model. We discover that the distributions of user think time and server response time are im...
متن کاملCross-Layer Extended Persistent Timeout Policy for SCTP and DSDV
Cross layer techniques applied to various protocols stacks provide fair information sharing between OSI model layers. The performance gains have been demonstrated for many studied systems within protocols interactions. The example is illustrative of the reliable transport protocols that use retransmissions to achieve that reliability function. The performance gains of the persistent timeout pol...
متن کاملUsing intermittent reinforcement to program maintenance of verbal/nonverbal correspondence.
We investigated the effects of an intermittent reinforcement procedure on maintenance of verbal/nonverbal correspondence with nutritious snack choices in a day-care setting. Nutritious snack choices were first established using correspondence training procedures in a multiple baseline across three children. Withdrawal of the procedures with one subject led to loss of appropriate responding, sug...

The purpose of this study was to teach contextually appropriate affective behavior to 4 youths with autism. Treatment consisted of modeling, prompting, and reinforcement introduced in a multiple baseline design across response categories of affective behavior. During treatment, verbal praise and tokens were delivered contingent on appropriate affective responding during training trials. Modelin...
